6 Tips for Glowing Skin

Ever noticed when someone’s skin is so radiant you can’t help but stare? Sure, everyone gets a blemish from time-to-time but its that skin-like-a-glazed-doughnut look that really gets heads turning. Follow these 6 tips for glowing skin to start your journey to the ultimate glow!

1. SPF Everyday

As much as the sun is great to boost your daily Vitamin D, research shows that too many rays can damage skin cells, lead to premature ageing and unwanted pigmentation. Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is a rating of how well a sunscreen, zinc, or makeup product protects your skin from the suns UVB rays. Products with an SPF30 rating block out roughly 97% of UVB rays, and those with an SPF50 rating block out 98%. No, that’s not a big difference, what is important is that both provide substantial protection and are recommended by dermatologists. Other factors to consider with your sun safety include broad-spectrum sunscreens which protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays, water resistance, reapplication, skin tone, and other protection such as clothing, and shade!

2. Avoid Hot Showers

We are all guilty of turning the tap on hot enough the room is steaming, but unfortunately our skin doesn’t love the scalding temperatures. Besides, the skin is way more likely to dry out and become irritable, and hot water does NOTHING to keep our precious skin barrier intact. In fact, high temperatures can cause the mast cells in your body to release histamine, causing the skin to itch exacerbating conditions such as eczema. In an ideal world of glowing skin every day, a lukewarm shower is best for beautiful skin.

3. Nourish From Within

What we put into our bodies absolutely effects how our skin appears. So, incorporating more colours of fruit and veggies in your diet can help you glow from within. The big groups to avoid for the best skin include alcohol, processed sugars, saturated fats, and anything that might inflame the body or skin. A great tip is adding in more essential fatty acids (EFAs) which can be found in fish, nuts, seeds and avocado! EFAs are amazing for the skin and help to hydrate your body as well as provide essential nutrients for top brain function and performance. The better quality your diet, the more your skin will thank you.

4. Water, water, water!

No, coffee doesn’t count towards the 8 glasses of water you need per day. Most adults require between 2-3L of water daily and the skin can appear sad and dry, giving you early signs of ageing in the form of dehydration lines. A great tip to help absorb the water and it tases amazing too is adding some fresh lemon. Plus, lemon water is adding to your daily needs of Vitamin C which in turn can assist in collagen production! That’s a win-win situation.

5. Invest in your skin.

Great skin comes to those who put in the effort. If you want glowing skin, then reviewing what’s in the skincare cupboard at home is the nest step. Quality and efficacy of ingredients in the products does matter, so choosing a brand that can change, hydrating and keeping your skin glowing is important! The icing on the cake is treating your skin to a facial, which not only can improve the circulation, tone, and quality of the skin, but also improves emotional wellbeing and reduces stress levels.

6. Beauty sleep

Nothing can beat a good night’s rest, and your skin would definitely agree. Arguably one of the most important pillars of health, sleep is when epidermal changes occur on the skin, like repairing! There’s no 10-step skincare routine that could save a poor sleep pattern. So, if you’re looking for an easy way to improve your skin, a great idea is to review if you’re really getting the recommended 7-9 hours each night. During your nights rest, blood flow throughout the body increases, organs detoxify and repair themselves, and collagen production occurs which assists in reducing ageing.
